Conspiracy theories? Well I had never ever had one problem with my console until I got the ce error while playing a game. It just happens that 4.05 was LITERALLY released when I got the error (can't rule out network updates). It definitely could be coincidence... I might have hardware failure but time will tell. I read many people over the years had success with Sandisk 8Gb USB's for uploading upgrades so will give it a go on the new hdd today.
