Hi so I've had this problem for a while now and I need to find a solution. It started about a month ago when I was living in my student accommodation. Back then my PlayStation was connected via Ethernet and was working perfectly.
Then a storm happened and we lost power. When power was restored the Ethernet wouldn't work for my PS4 or laptop. Ive since bought a new laptop cause the other one was badly in need of a replacement anyway and the internet works fine on it. However my PlayStation still won't connect to the Ethernet. I get the error code nw-31314-2 and fail to obtain an IP address. Briefly 2 weeks ago it was working however every 30 seconds the connection would drop and if I was downloading something or logged on to something it would kick me off and the message "lan cable not connected" would appear. This only lasted for a day until it returned to it's usual error code message of nw-31314-2.
Currently I'm using my laptop as a hotspot however this is extremely slow and not stable. I've called in the man in charge of maintenance of the accommodation yet as my laptop is working he says it's a fault with my PlayStation. However when I took my PlayStation over to a friend's house the it worked perfectly and it also worked when I took it home for the weekend so I'm not sure if it's my Playstations fault. Some people have said this may have been a result of a power surge yet I'm almost certain that I unplugged my PS4 before the power cut out. However if my ps was damaged then why was it connected and working over at my friend's house as well as at my normal home. Also I don't have a router, there's only the one Ethernet port that I used to switch between my PS4 and laptop when I wanted to use one or the other.
Any help/ possible solutions are greatly appreciated
