Just started to have the same problem and my controller would stop charging and then feel hot to the touch. I think it's a sensor that stops it from over heating or catching fire and automatically prevents the battery to charge. At first it wouldn't charge at all, then after putting it in the freezer a minute or two and resetting it, it finally began to charge! Then eventually get hot again and stop charging. I did this a few times until I finally got a frozen bottle of water set it under the controller on a towel, and now it's charging just fine! Weird...
