Error (SU-42118-6) when updating to 5.5?

 **************** FIX (SU-42118-6) *****************

This is for my PlayStation that it worked. I've known I've always had an issue with my Blu-ray Drive. KNOWING THAT i went straight for it when taking it apart. apparently after I changed the thermal paste when i put the BOTTOM cover back on somehow the main (wide flat-pin cable with blue tip and "T" tabs NOT the skinny one with blue tip.) connector for the blu-ray drive came out and the left "T" tab was no longer on the flat pin cable. I used a flashlight looked in the connector and removed the broken off blue "T" tab that would prevent the cable from PHYSICALLY making a connection. Then put the flat pin back in,  made sure it stayed connected put back in three screws in the back of the PlayStation 4 for the bottom cover restarted in safe mode option three updated from internet and it actually started to install after the download instead of instantly throwing me the error code of su - 42118 - 6 after downloading.

 

Hope this works I'm happier than a pig in s***!!!!! if you have any questions post a reply I get updates through email. If I don't respond right away it's cuz I got Call of Duty back LOL

Update 5.50 Bricked my PS4

Same here... turned on PS4... downloaded latest update... 

Then it restart and I can hear sounds but not the screen. Cannot enter safe mode either as i can't see the screen. 

Tested monitor and it works as I'm typing on it atm with my computer. 

 

:( :( :(

I just literally did the safe mode rebuild and deleted the update and now its making me download a 33gb version 1.46 r6 update. Hope it doesn’t have to copy...

idk if this'll work, but turn it on, and assuming the thing actually still is working and just erroring same as everyone elses, connect your controller via usb, turn it on and hit X. I tried the redownloading from safe mode junk support suggested and didnt work of course. but after i did my thing randomly it restarted, scanned as usual and started back up fine. just a suggestion as i know support never helps.

Thanks Playstation you have just bricked my console!!!!!

 

I have just done the 5.50 update and now my ps4 won't start. It is asking for the re installation update file. I downloaded the file from this site. Put it on a FAT32 USB  and tried to update from there, it says there is no update file on the drive. So I put it in a folder called UPDATE still not file. I even went into safe mode and tried to update it online. Still nothing. *****!!!!!

There's a handful of us, myself included, where the update was "successful" but the system is shutting down on it's own at random times with no warning, no high temperature light, or anything. And my system is only 2 years old and just gets average use. Isn't this what having a $<"(>,% beta test is supposed help prevent?!

After installing update 5.50 my controller becomes unresponsive after a few minutes and I'm forced to keep resetting the controller. I never had this issue until I downloaded the new update.

ok i was having the same problem i when to my 1.library 2.clicked on a file random  (fortnite)3. it took me to the update screen when 4. hit update like 4 times even after it said the error  then it worked or the 4th time. don't know if i did something or chance .good luck

Sweet Satan on a unicycle buddy, I was shitting myself when I got off work and had nothing but a frozen screen with green and blue bars with static, it was running behind it but I tried resetting and everything but no dice.

I thought I'd have to send it in or buy a new one..

Tried different HDMI cables, everything.

I have no idea why but this worked and you made my day after an hour of Google hunting for solutions.

My tv was opening Hulu and YouTube dine, and was off the whole time I was at work, I have no idea why this worked but it did.

You're a hero

I went through all of this with that last update (5.05) and only got my PS4 working 2 weeks ago after speaking to the help line, twitter, here nothing worked emailed the CEO and surprisingly got some help, however was the usual stuff mentioned above (install in safe mode, USB etc) however after 2 months of trying to update it worked first time.  my bluray too is knackered but cant help but think there's more too it than just an update not working....!

It’s the blueray buddy either it’s not connected or you an aftermarket one in systems that isn’t compatible with you em motherboard
