Found something.
So, it's normal to give you that message. Plug it in even if it says it is unsupported. After that what you need to do is this:
Under Settings, go to Devices.
Under Devices, go to USB Storage Devices.
Under USB Storage Devices, press Format as Extended Storage.

Done that too. Just comes up with the error message CE-41901-5. Then tried 'options' to format as exFAT, but came up with another error message :(

Pro is a good one. have one myself and didn't have a problem Yet. if you buy a new console try to see if you can buy an extended warranty with the retailer as well.

PS4 Slim power supply problem?
Hi,
I have exactly the same case with the same ps4 CUH-2016A.
The problem starts for me in the begging of March 2018.
Step I did, which was not helpful:
- reinstall PS4 system from usb
- repair/restore database from safe mode
- replace HDD with new one
All steps above was useless!
Someday I think it is a hardware problem (as you did) - but it's not...
By the way I think exactly like you did: hdd, power supply, motherboard, overheating.
Only after removing saved data from my ps4 and stoping its syncing I was able to play practically all games again.
Unfortunately, I'm still getting this error in one certain moment when playing "The Witcher 3".
I'll keep you updated about my news with this issue.

No matter how many times I download the holiday tip the USB driver everyone I try tip install it after it gets top 100% it says the files corrupt.
I tried from the ps4 but it says my internet isn't connected and I cant connect it through safe mode

Basically what this guys did was to disconnect the blue ray reader completely and update via usb and then reconnect the blue ray reader(disc reader). Good luck!

I took the lead out but only once I got the error code as I saw a vid on you tube but the fella took it out halfwaybyhrough so I'll try that tomoz , cheers mate , ps I've ordered a new blu ray drive it'll be here Sunday . Just in case lol
